Green Cars From SsangYong

The Paris Motor Show in 2008 saw SsangYong launch the C200 an SUV that is environmentally friendly and compact and could be aptly called a 'green car'. Its characteristics according to the company are Compact, City and Convenience, giving an image of a car for the urban young. With the worldwide awareness of the environment most manufacturers during the show have highlighted the 'green' concept and made an effort to be more in line with the demands of customer's nowadays.

It has a 2000cc diesel engine that has a six speed manual transmission and produces a horsepower of up to 175. Its innovative four wheel drive technology gives driving performance that is optimal. The 'green car' is environmentally friendly as it satisfies all carbon dioxide emission standards and the latest regulation prevalent in Europe which is embodied in the EURO V norms. This friendliness with the environment in its performance makes it a top level urban compact Sports Utility Vehicle that can stand up to all of its competitors.

The C200 has an aluminum suspension that reduces its weight and has a low center of gravity giving it greater road grip and ease of handling. This futuristic compact SUV is a model that is symbolic of SsangYong's expansion plans from 2010 onwards and its vision for the future.

It plans to diversify its product line up which is presently mainly based on frame type rear wheel drive models. It will now go in for a monocoque body with a front wheel drive and a power train that has been recently developed. The C200 is the first such model that will emphasize the company is turning away from its frame type models.

Monocoque construction envisages the use of the entire shell of the vehicle to support the load that it has to carry, against the present use of frames which carry the weight and the skin of the vehicle is separately fixed on to such frames. This is also known as unibody construction, and this type of construction is deemed environmentally friendly as full use is made of the body of the car thus allowing it to reduce the total weight and hence the production requirements. The original idea of this sort of construction was developed for airplanes.

The C200 from SsangYong has been designed with the needs of people in the city and its comfort and elegance with the latest in design techniques also has emphasized on performance that is environmentally friendly. It has a length of 4400 mm and a 2640 mm wheel base that allows it to be easily handled compared to most European models. The suspension has been specially engineered to suit European driving conditions plus its usual four wheel drive system.

This model of the C200 combines the dynamic and progressive, and emphasizes the history, tradition and innovativeness of SsangYong Motor. It is hoped that this model will become a trendsetter with its interior and exterior design and establish the SsangYong Motor's strategy direction for the future.
